La Grande Jatte
Painting by GEORGES SEURAT Georges Seurat painted this work in 1884. He made a lot of previous sketches and drawings before he started to paint this enormous scenario where figures seem to live in an innocent eternity, like icons of a everlasting contemplation. Seurat planned his work as a scientific research with the scope of translating the real light in nature to the canvas. He worked basically with pure colours, mixing them wisely and very carefully. It's curious, but his scientific point of view led him to an artistic world full of contemplation and spirituality, perhaps a stunning and unexpected result. Juan Bielsa |
